Phantom calcite from the Ives Quarry in Racine, Wisconsin, is famous for its scalenohedral "dog-tooth" crystals that contain internal, repeating phantom growths of microscopic marcasite. Because Ives Quarry—formerly known as the Vulcan Materials Company Quarry—is an active commercial site, public collecting is generally prohibited. Today, Ives Quarry phantom calcite is considered a historical, "one-time find", meaning you will have to source these pieces through private mineral dealers or collector estate sales. [1, 2]
